East Dulwich House

A single storey rear extension to a three storey terraced house in East Dulwich.

The brief was to replace the existing conservatory with a new rear and side infill extension at ground floor to provide a larger kitchen and open the building up to the rear garden.  We proposed a simple single storey volume with a shallow pitched roof. 

Materials include buff brickwork with a black zinc roof contrast with the pink pigmented concrete patio paving.

The extension includes a new kitchen and dining space, with a utility and separate WC off the corridor linking back to the existing house.  An internal ‘lightwell’ containing a bar area will bring natural light through a skylight into the rear windows of the existing reception room.

The ceiling height over the kitchen is restricted by the height of the existing first floor above.  The extension pitched roof allows for a vaulted ceiling adding height and volume to the seating area.  Large bifold doors to open up this space to the patio and garden beyond.

Planning permission was granted in February 2023.
